The character models are some of the best that players have ever seen in this type of game and are richly detailed and animated.
The game also includes real-time lighting and shadow effects to a degree rarely seen before, so for example when you walk in the jungle you actually see the shadows of the top leaves flickering on your rifle. In some of the larger interior levels, the shadows of approaching enemies are projected onto the walls in an extremely realistic manner. And the intense erosion of heat from lava flows distorts the atmosphere. And nearby, a missed enemy missile will obscure your vision - as if from a gust of wind.
Far Cry is a stunning game in many ways. It raised the bar for graphics to new heights.
