Alan Wake 2 Update to Significantly Boost Older GPU Performance, Set for End of Week Release

Remedy Entertainment has unveiled plans for an imminent update for the PC version of Alan Wake 2, designed to enhance performance for aging graphics processors. As per Digital Foundry, the patch scheduled for release at the end of this week promises substantial performance boosts, particularly for NVIDIA's older Pascal GPUs from GTX 1060 to GTX 1080Ti. For instance, the GTX 1060 observed a 45% increase, while the GTX 1080Ti's performance has more than doubled from its initial metrics.

However, AMD GPUs lacking Mesh Shaders support, like the RX 580, faced stability issues and lower performance. The newer AMD RX 5700 only saw a modest 2% performance increase with this update.

Notably, the update also brings performance enhancements to NVIDIA's latest Ada Lovelace GPUs, with the RTX 4070 showing a 14% increase in speed without ray tracing activated.

Beyond technical enhancements, Remedy also reported that sales of Alan Wake 2 have crossed 1.3 million units, making it their fastest-selling game. Two more DLCs are anticipated to launch this year.
