Epic Games Store Remains Unprofitable Amid Market Expansion Efforts

Five years since its debut on December 6, 2018, Epic Games Store is still operating at a loss, Epic Games has confirmed. Despite strategic initiatives to capture market share, including offering free games to users and charging a reduced developer fee of 12% compared to competitors like Steam, who charge 30%, the storefront’s financials remain in the red.

Steve Allison, General Manager of the Epic Games Store, relayed this news during a court hearing regarding Epic Games' lawsuit against Google, which came about after Fortnite was removed from the Google Play Store. Despite the ongoing financial setbacks, Epic Games is continuing to invest in their platform's expansion, seeing the potential for long-term growth and user acquisition.
