Rockstar Games Reportedly Working on New IP Since Red Dead Redemption 2 Release

Rockstar Games has reportedly been working on a brand new IP since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, according to the latest rumors. The information comes from a source previously involved in leaking the GTA V source code, who claims Rockstar Games is developing the new IP in collaboration with a "hugely popular" third-party developer and that it has been in development since 2018, shortly after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Rockstar Games

In October 2023, Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games' parent company, filed a trademark for "Project Ethos." However, it's unclear whether this trademark pertains to Rockstar Games' new IP. In 2021, the company announced that it was preparing over 60 new releases, 23 of which are "immersive core" titles, planned for release between April 2022 and March 2024, so the trademark could be associated with any of these unannounced titles.

Rumors also suggest that there are two new IPs in development at Rockstar Games. One is a resurrected project titled Agent, while the other is set in a medieval fantasy setting. According to sources, although Agent is in development, it's likely to be released later, in the next console generation. The medieval fantasy IP could be a new direction for Rockstar Games, possibly aiming to rival games like Elder Scrolls and Elden Ring, with a focus on melee combat and sorcery.
