Starfield Pre-Load Begins August 9th: Bethesda Plans Ahead to Avoid Server Overload

Aiming to avert the server overloads that plagued Larian Studios on the release day of Baldur's Gate 3, Bethesda has announced an early pre-load date for Starfield, their upcoming interstellar exploration game. The pre-load will start on August 9th, providing almost a month for players to download the 125GB game – one of the largest of 2023.

The initiative follows the server issues encountered during the release of Baldur's Gate 3, where the absence of pre-loading led to massive download demands on Steam's servers on the launch day. Learning from this experience, Bethesda aims to provide a smooth launch, particularly considering the expected interest from Xbox community members and Game Pass subscribers.

With a journey across more than 1000 planets awaiting players, Bethesda's early move on the pre-load is seen as a wise strategy to ensure that Microsoft's servers handle the load effectively.
