Starfield Thrives on PC Despite Xbox Exclusivity Marketing

While Starfield was actively promoted as an Xbox Series X|S console exclusive, it performs best on PC. According to Circana, the majority of copies of the space RPG sold in the U.S. in September were for the PC version.

According to the analysis, Starfield became the best-selling game of the past month in the region and currently holds the seventh spot on the list of the most successful releases of 2023 in the U.S.

Although there is no precise breakdown by platform in the report, a significant portion of the game's sales likely came from Steam. Looking at online statistics, Starfield reached over 330,000 concurrent players at its peak on the Valve platform, making it one of the best-performing releases this year. Furthermore, for six consecutive weeks after its release, the game consistently ranked among the top 10 bestsellers on the service.

Bethesda games, especially titles like Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, have enjoyed significant success on PC in the past, and it seems that Starfield is continuing this tradition despite Microsoft's marketing efforts for Xbox.
