GeForce 7600 GT

Video cards based on the 6600GT turned out to be very successful, they served faithfully for a year and a half and were deservedly popular. Of course, during this time NVIDIA also positioned other products in the mainstream segment, such as 6800GS, but they were not widely used. And so, on March 9, 2006, together with the update of top-end graphics processors, NVIDIA introduced a new chip, on which video cards of the middle price segment were based in the future. The chip name is G73.

The main feature that unambiguously characterized the G73 as a mid-range solution is the 128-bit wide memory bus. Despite the fact that games made more and more serious demands on hardware in general and video cards in particular, NVIDIA was in no hurry to equip mid-range video cards with a 256-bit memory bus, leaving it for top-end solutions. The release of video cards based on the 6800GS was an exception that only confirmed the rule. Yes, 6800GS had a 256-bit memory bus, but don't forget that 6800GS appeared in response to the announcement of X1600XT, and in fact is a stripped-down version of 6800GT.

G73 - was a completely new video chip, made according to the 90 nm process technology. The key changes compared to the predecessor 6600GT are 12 pixel and 5 vertex pipelines instead of 8 and 3, respectively. The G73 also supported two DVI Dual-Link video outputs with a maximum resolution of up to 2560x1600 inclusive, HDTV and H.264 hardware acceleration. Of course, the G73 supported Ultra Shadow II technology and SLI operation.

The main representative of this class was the GeForce 7600 GT
