Intel Prepping Improvements in Vulkan Driver for Linux: Up to 12% Performance Boost in Games on Arc GPUs
Intel aims to offer even better support for its Arc GPUs on open-source platforms in the next generation. The company continues to impress enthusiasts with its quick support on open platforms, despite the fact that the Arc GPU lineup emerged much later than its competitors.
Intel is in the process of implementing an optimization in its Vulkan driver for Linux that promises a performance boost in several games. However, it's worth noting that support for the optimization is still pending. Nevertheless, the merger with the Mesa Vulkan driver is expected to be completed soon, leading to maturity within the Intel Arc Vulkan drivers and expanded support on the platform.
According to Phoronix, Intel's new Vulkan driver optimization will enable a performance increase in several titles. Games like Strange Brigade are set to receive a double-digit performance boost, while Shadow of The Tomb Raider and Dota 2 will see a 2% increase in performance.
Intel's Linux graphics driver development team has confirmed these improvements. The most significant performance gains, up to 12.78%, were observed in the game Strange Brigade.
