Potential Issue with PlayStation 5 Slim: Detachable Disc Drive May Become Obsolete

Sales of the updated PlayStation 5 Slim model have recently started, but concerns have already arisen regarding its detachable disc drive. According to the Twitter account Does It Play, there is a potential scenario in which the disc drive may become unusable if the console's online services are discontinued.

The problem lies in the requirement for network access to register the PS5 Slim's Blu-Ray drive, even if the console comes with a disc drive. This procedure must be repeated every time the system is formatted. Given the inevitable discontinuation of network services in the future, this could pose a significant issue.

It is hoped that Sony will address this concern, especially since the PS5 Slim is set to eventually replace the original model released at the end of 2020.
