PS5 Pro Devkit Identical to Base Model, Insider Reveals New Details

Sony has been dispatching developer kits (devkits) for the PlayStation 5 Pro to external partners since the beginning of the year, but no images of the kit have leaked online. Insiders suggest that the PS5 Pro devkits look identical to those of the base PS5 model, which may explain the lack of leaked images.

Insider Tom Henderson confirmed the accuracy of the leaked specifications for Sony's upgraded console. According to him, Sony has chosen not to alter the design for the PS5 Pro prototype, instead opting to fit the upgraded hardware into the casings of the standard version devkits.

The enhanced PlayStation 5 Pro, expected to launch later this year, will be significantly more powerful than its predecessor. Preliminary information suggests the PS5 Pro will be three times more powerful than the standard PS5. The new console’s memory bandwidth is reported to be 576 GB/s, a 28% increase from the current model's 448 GB/s.

The main processor in the PS5 Pro will remain the same as in the base model but will feature a boost mode, allowing the CPU frequency to increase by 10% to 3.85 GHz. Despite increased power consumption, this will only slightly reduce the GPU performance by about 1%.

Additionally, the audio module of the PlayStation 5 Pro is expected to operate at a higher clock rate, boosting the performance of the ACM library by 35%. Sony aims to make the PS5 Pro highly competitive by adopting a common design with a removable disc drive for both the disc and digital models and increasing the solid-state drive capacity to 1 TB.
