Apple Shocks Again: M2 Ultra 46% Faster Than Its Predecessor and Almost Matches RTX 4080

Are you ready for another amazing performance show from Apple? This time the focus is on the M2 Ultra, the latest processor from the kings of innovation and apples covering everything. Before the launch of Mac Studio and Mac Pro, we will surely see more comparisons. And it seems that every time we look at these numbers, they get higher and higher, as if Apple has some magic fountain of performance in store.

M2 Ultra benchmark

It's especially interesting that we couldn't find the same Geekbench 6 test result for the RTX 4080. But if you search, you'll see that the RTX 4080 results are about the same as the M2 Ultra. At the very least, it was a positive impression of how the M2 Ultra competes with a desktop graphics card.

Compared to the next on the list, the RTX 4080, which scored 245,808 in the same test, our hero, the M2 Ultra, is only 10% behind. Not much for a mobile chip, right? Of course, in other Geekbench tests, the performance of Apple's flagship SoC will be different, but it is worth noting and rejoicing at the success of Apple's own chip manufacturing division. We can only guess what surprises await us in the future when the M3 line arrives later this year or early 2024.

According to the Metal benchmark, the M1 Ultra scores 150,407 points. This means that the M2 Ultra is 46% faster than the M1 Ultra, and one of the reasons is probably the increase in the number of GPU cores. If the M1 Ultra has a maximum of 64 GPU cores, then the M2 Ultra with its 76-core GPU configuration seems to have higher ambitions. The M2 Ultra configuration includes 128GB of combined RAM and a 24-core CPU, which means that the tested model is equipped with 76 GPU cores.
