Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 FE already uses improved 12V-2x6 power connector to solve overheating issues

The world of graphics cards is still waiting for the formal introduction of the updated 12V-2×6 power connector from PCI-SIG, which will solve the problem of overheating and melting of connectors that has become the scourge of the series GeForce RTX 40 from Nvidia a few months ago. However, according to Igor's Lab, Nvidia's own GeForce RTX 4070 Founders Edition graphics card already uses an improved 12V-2x6 auxiliary power connector.

The main difference between the original 12VHPWR connector and the new 12V-2×6 is the 1,7mm shorter sensors. This ensures that the power pin is fully inserted into the connector, otherwise the power supply will not activate high power modes, preventing overheating and melting when the graphics card requires a lot of power.

So far, only Astron makes the new 12V-2x6 power connectors, and Nvidia is the only company using them, at least according to Igor's Lab. Other graphics card manufacturers will likely wait until the PCI-SIG formally approves the new connector before using it in mainstream products. It seems like Nvidia is ready to take a chance and use it in their GeForce RTX 4070 Founders Edition model, which is one of the best graphics cards to date.

Now it remains to be seen when PCI-SIG finally approves the new 12V-2x6 power connector, and when graphics card manufacturers start using it instead of the infamous 12VHPWR connector.
