Intel Optimization in Mesa 23.2 Improves Graphics Performance for Arc and Meteor Lake
Friday's latest Mesa 23.2 code has implemented significant optimizations for the Intel graphics driver, which positively affects the performance of Intel Arc Graphics DG2/Alchemist and future Meteor Lake graphics solutions.
One of the changes implemented was the inclusion of "L3 partial write merging" for compressible surfaces and other suitable cases for DG2 and future platforms like Meteor Lake. In just a few lines of code, this update improves the performance of Intel's Arc Discrete GPUs and narrows the performance gap between Windows and Linux graphics drivers.
Under real-world use, such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, an 11% increase in performance was seen.
Such notable improvements in various Linux games are made possible by this optimization. This update is already available in the Mesa 23.2-devel Git code and should stabilize by the end of August or September.
