Serious issues with CableMod's custom 12VHPWR connectors for GeForce RTX 40 GPUs continue to emerge

A major problem has been identified with CableMod's custom 12VHPWR connectors used for GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs. A significant number of users are reporting that the connectors burn out, even when they're connected correctly.

Reports of these issues originated from Reddit user u/Darewelll, who claimed that his adapter burned and melted in a way that the plastic fused itself together, rendering it impossible to remove from either of the plugs. The user even shared a YouTube video providing evidence of the burnt marks on the adapter.

Experts have pointed to potential design flaws in the 90-degree adapters as the likely cause of the issue. Notably, these adapters are prone to a 'wiggling' problem, causing users to doubt whether the connector is fully seated. The weight disparity due to the attached cable might be causing the CableMod adapter not to be fully seated, leading to a higher risk of burnouts.

The situation is made even more problematic by the fact that CableMod is yet to issue an official statement regarding these incidents. The company did, however, promise to replace the affected GPUs with new ones. Still, it remains uncertain how long CableMod will be able to offer replacements to users facing this issue. If the problem becomes widespread, it could pose serious issues for both the company and its customers.

We recommend all consumers using CableMod adapters to proceed with caution. Ensure that the adapter is fully seated and that there is no bending in the power cable to avoid potential burnouts. Stay tuned for further updates on this situation.
