We tested Kingdom Come Deliverance at the highest graphics settings, on video cards from the GEFORCE RTX and RADEON RX series. Also, during the tests we conducted, we assessed the performance and quality of the graphic display of the game itself.

History of the development of the game Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a role-playing game set in medieval Europe, developed by the Czech studio Warhorse Studios. The game gained attention due to its commitment to historical accuracy and realism.

Development began in 2011, when Daniel Vavra, known for his work on the Mafia games, left 2K Czech and founded his own studio, Warhorse Studios. The project started with the ambitious idea of ​​creating a game that would offer a realistic representation of medieval Europe without the fantasy elements that were uncharacteristic of most RPGs of the time.

In 2014, Warhorse Studios launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the game's development. The goal was to raise £300,000, but the campaign ended with over £1.1 million, allowing the developers to significantly expand the scope of the project. This was a clear indication of the community's interest in the game.

During development, the team faced many challenges, including the need to work with historical consultants to achieve maximum authenticity of the events, locations and life of that time. This included the study of historical materials, maps, chronicles and archaeological data.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance was released on February 13, 2018, to positive reviews for both the depth and complexity of its game world and its commitment to historical accuracy.

The graphics in Kingdom Come: Deliverance deserve special attention due to their commitment to photorealism and attention to detail. To achieve a high level of realism, the developers used technology for scanning faces and clothing, which made it possible to create unique and realistic images of characters.

One of the key elements in the game's graphic design is the lighting system, which dynamically changes depending on the time of day and weather conditions, adding depth and realism to the visual experience. The detailing of the environment also plays an important role - from forests and fields to villages and castles, each element is carefully crafted.

The developers focused on character animation, especially during combat scenes, where every hit, block and movement was important to create the feeling of real hand-to-hand combat. Thanks to the use of captcha (motion capture) technology, the characters' movements look smooth and natural.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is developed on the CryEngine game engine, which was chosen for its ability to provide a high degree of detail and visual appeal. CryEngine made it possible to create a huge open world with dynamic weather conditions, complex textures and realistic lighting.

The use of CryEngine also contributed to the development of the game's complex physical and mechanical interactions, such as combat, realistic horse behavior, and environmental interactivity. This was key to creating an immersive gaming experience that highlights the realism and detail of the medieval world.

The engine allowed the developers to implement a complex AI system for NPCs that react to the player's actions and change their behavior depending on many factors, including time of day and social interactions. This adds dynamism to the gameplay and makes each playthrough unique.

DIFFERENT QUALITY MODES

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the difference in graphics quality between the minimum and maximum settings is significant and has a large impact on the visual experience of the game. This impact extends to aspects such as texture detail, lighting quality, visual effects and performance.

1. Texture detailing:

  • Minimum settings: Textures appear blurrier and less detailed. This is especially noticeable on the surfaces of objects such as trees, the ground, character clothing, and architectural elements. Texture blur can also cause the game world to appear less realistic.
  • Maximum settings: Textures become significantly clearer and more detailed, adding realism to the game's visual style. Surfaces such as leather, fabric, stone and tree leaves are high resolution, enhancing the overall visual experience and immersion in the game.

  • Maximum Settings: Advanced lighting and realistic shadows add depth and realism to scenes. Shadows become softer and more naturalistic, and lighting dynamically changes depending on the time of day and weather conditions, creating impressive visual effects.

3. Visual effects and environmental details:

  • Minimal Settings: Many visual effects, such as high-quality reflections, detailed water worlds, and foliage animations, can be disabled or greatly simplified to improve performance.
  • Maximum settings: Includes all additional visual effects, including complex reflections, plant animations, particles and other elements that make the world more alive and interactive.

4. Performance:

  • Minimum Settings: Prioritizes performance at the expense of image quality, making the game more accessible on low-spec systems.
  • Maximum settings: Requires a significantly more powerful hardware configuration to maintain stable frame rates, especially in densely populated or complex scenes.

Depending on the player's preferences and the capabilities of their computer, choosing between minimum and maximum settings can significantly affect the gaming experience in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality using MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. Below is a video of the test segment:

 Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080 , 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 with maximum graphics quality settings.

In the video card test, the default resolution is 1920x1080; other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also select any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected). The test is carried out on the most powerful CPU in this game and is scaled to other processors, taking into account their testing on NVIDIA and AMD video cards.

 At a resolution of 1920x1080, an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon RX 6600 or GeForce RTX 2060 level .  A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the Radeon RX 6600 or GeForce RTX 2060 level . A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by Radeon RX 6650 XT or GeForce RTX 3070 Ti solutions .

Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by  MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA at resolutions of  1920x1080, 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 with various anti-aliasing settings. By default, the graph displays the most current solutions. Other video cards are added and removed from the chart at the request of the reader.

Testing was carried out at a resolution of 1920x1080. In the processor test, you can remove or add any processor positions. You can also select any tested video card from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given processor test results  (by default, the most productive solution from NVIDIA is selected). Testing takes place on the most powerful NVIDIA and AMD video cards and scales to low-end models.

 When using NVIDIA video cards , Ryzen 3 3100 or Core i 3 10100 processors showed an acceptable rate of at least 25 frames per second  , and solutions at the Core i 5 12600 level can provide an FPS rate of at least 60 frames per second .  

When using AM D video cards , Ryzen 3 3100 or Core i 3 10100 processors showed an acceptable rate of at least 25 frames per second  , and solutions at the Ryzen 5 7600 or Core i 5 11600 level can provide an FPS rate of at least 60 frames per second .

The RAM test for the entire system was carried out on various video cards without launching third-party applications (browsers, etc.).
