"Starfield" from Bethesda Game Studios marks a revolutionary step in the gaming industry, thanks in large part to its improved game engine, Creation Engine 2. An evolution of the technologies used in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4, this engine represents a significant technical upgrade , allowing developers to create richer, more detailed game worlds.

Creation Engine 2 greatly improves the visual experience of Starfield, bringing advanced lighting, shadowing and texture techniques. These enhancements not only enhance the realism of scenes, but also enrich the visual atmosphere, creating a deeply immersive gaming experience. This is especially noticeable in the display of cosmic landscapes and detailed interiors of spaceships, which makes the exploration of outer space in the game more fascinating.

Engine performance and optimization have also been significantly improved. With multi-threaded processing and improved utilization of computer resources, Creation Engine 2 delivers smoother gameplay, even in the most demanding scenes. This is especially important for a game that offers huge open worlds, where performance is key to player immersion.

Animations and physics in Creation Engine 2 have also received significant improvements. Character movements and interactions with the outside world have become more realistic and natural. Creation Engine 2 also represents a major step forward in rendering technology, including support for DirectX 12 and Ray Tracing technology. These technologies allow for deeper and more realistic visual effects, especially in terms of lighting and reflections. AMD FidelityFX support also improves image quality at medium and low settings, making the game accessible to a wider range of gamers.

It is important to note that Creation Engine 2 has been optimized for various platforms, including the latest generation consoles and PC. This ensures consistent performance in a variety of gaming scenarios and makes Starfield accessible to a wide range of players.

DIFFERENT QUALITY MODES

In Starfield, when comparing image quality between native resolution, DLSS and FSR, there are a few key points to consider:

  1. Native Resolution : Using native resolution usually provides the highest quality images with maximum detail and clarity. This is because there are no scaling or anti-aliasing algorithms affecting the image. However, high image quality at native resolution requires more powerful hardware, especially to achieve stable high frame rates.

  2. DLSS : With official support for DLSS in the Starfield beta update, this technology offers improved image quality compared to FSR. DLSS reduces aliasing and offers significant performance gains, allowing you to game at higher resolutions and frame rates. However, while image quality is improved when using DLSS, it may not be as detailed or clear as native resolutions due to the upscaling process.

  3. FSR 2.2 : FSR 2.2, while improving image quality over the native TAA solution, still does not reach the level of detail of native resolution. FSR 2.2 makes improvements to anti-aliasing and adds sharpening filters, but suffers from flicker issues on thin objects and vegetation, as well as pixelation on particles and disocclusion artifacts on NPCs, especially at lower resolutions.

In summary, native resolution provides the best image quality in terms of detail and clarity, while DLSS and FSR offer a trade-off between performance and image quality, with some loss of detail and clarity compared to native resolution.

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality using MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. Below is a video of the test segment:

 Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080 , 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 with maximum graphics quality settings.

In the video card test, the default resolution is 1920x1080; other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also select any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected). The test is carried out on the most powerful CPU in this game and is scaled to other processors, taking into account their testing on NVIDIA and AMD video cards.

Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by  MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA at resolutions of  1920x1080, 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 with various anti-aliasing settings. By default, the graph displays the most current solutions. Other video cards are added and removed from the chart at the request of the reader.

The test was carried out on the basic configuration of Core i 9 13900K with 32 GB DDR5 6400 MHz pre-installed memory. All used RAM was taken as an indicator. The RAM test for the entire system was carried out on various video cards without launching third-party applications (browsers, etc.). In the graphics, you can add and remove any resolutions and video cards as desired.
