A GAME |
"Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart" is a game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5. As a continuation of the Ratchet & Clank series, the game was announced in June 2020 during the presentation of "The Future of Gaming" for PS5.
1. Development history
As always, the history of game development begins with its inception in the minds of developers. Insomniac Games has had experience with the Ratchet & Clank franchise, having created several successful titles before. After the success of "Ratchet & Clank" in 2016, the team began to think about the next step.
The main idea for "Rift Apart" came about after demonstrating the technological capabilities of the PS5. In particular, the SSD drive of the new console allowed for a quick change of game worlds, which became a key feature of "Rift Apart". This became the starting point for the development of the story and gameplay.
During the development process, the team faced a number of challenges. One was the need to adapt the game engine to take advantage of the PS5's features, including the SSD, graphics chip, and DualSense controller. Another challenge was the development of a new character - Lombaks Rivet, which required the careful work of designers and scriptwriters.
2. Game engine
"Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart" was developed on an updated version of the game engine Insomniac Engine, which was adapted for PS5. Engineers from Insomniac have done a lot of work on optimizing the engine for the new console.
One of the PS5's key features is its SSD storage, which allows you to load data much faster than a regular hard drive. This made it possible to instantly switch between game worlds, which became a key feature of the game. To do this, we had to change the way we download and store data to provide unprecedented speed.
In addition, the Insomniac Engine has been adapted to use the new PS5 graphics chip, resulting in an even more detailed and realistic world. The game uses ray tracing technology to display light and reflections realistically, as well as dynamic resolution to ensure a stable frame rate.
Finally, Insomniac used the new DualSense controller capabilities to create a deeper immersion in the game. By using haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, they were able to give players a more tactile experience when interacting with the game world.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has won the hearts of fans on PlayStation 5 with enviable confidence, thanks to stunning graphics, dynamic gameplay and exquisite use of the PS5 SSD to change worlds in an instant. And now, the game has come to a new platform - PC, which promises major changes and additional features.
Features of the PC version of the game
The game was designed from the ground up with the PS5's unique features in mind, including amazing ray tracing, exceptional SSD loading speeds, and innovative DualSense controller features. However, like any game porting to PC, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is expected to receive a number of platform-specific improvements and options.
-
Ray Tracing and Graphics Card Support : Nixxes Software is actively working on ray tracing support for AMD graphics cards. The reasons for the lack of this support at the time of release are not specified, but it may be due to technical difficulties or differences in hardware architecture. At the same time, users of NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics accelerators will be able to use ray tracing immediately after release, and will also have access to proprietary NVIDIA technologies, including DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), Reflex (reduces system latency in games) and RTX IO (accelerates loading and decoding textures using the GPU).
-
Steam Deck Support : One of the features of the PC version will be full compatibility with Steam Deck, Valve's portable gaming device. This means that players will be able to enjoy "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart" even on the move, with the same gaming experience as a desktop PC.
-
Graphics Settings : Porting a game to PC usually involves a much wider range of graphics settings. Players can expect to be able to adjust resolution, texture quality, lighting and shadow settings, anti-aliasing, and other settings to optimize performance for their PC configuration.
-
Controls : In addition, the game should offer support for both keyboard and mouse, and various controllers, giving players more freedom in choosing how to control.
-
Mods : Even though there is no information about mod support yet, the ability to use mods may be another feature of the PC version. Mods can add new content to the game, change the gameplay, or even improve the graphics.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PC promises to be even more impressive and flexible in terms of gameplay customization than the PS5 version. Despite some difficulties that may arise during porting, you can be sure that the developers will do everything possible to ensure that players get the best gaming experience.
TEST PART |
GPU TEST |
In the test of video cards, the default resolution is 1920x1080, other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also select any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected). The test is carried out on the most productive CPU in this game and is scaled to other processors, taking into account their testing on NVIDIA and AMD video cards.
At a resolution of 1920x1080, an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon RX 580 or GeForce GTX 1080 level . A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the level Radeon RX 5600 XT or GeForce GTX 1080 FSR . A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by Radeon RX 5700 XT FSR solutions .
At a resolution of 2560x1440 , an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the level Radeon RX 5600 XT or GeForce GTX 1070 FSR . A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the Radeon RX Vega 56 level .
