In a recent video, an impressive tech demo called "The Secluded Orchid" demonstrated the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5, the latest version of Epic Games' renowned engine.

Developed by FYQD-Studio, the creator of Bright Memory Infinite, this tech demo showcases what can be achieved with Unreal Engine 5. The demo, created in approximately two hours, used 5,000 8K resolution photos to generate high-quality 3D models, which were then integrated into Unreal Engine 5. While some aspects of the demo, such as the movement system implemented in just 20 minutes through motion capture, may appear rough at times, it illustrates the incredible level of detail and realism that developers can attain, even with limited development time.

Unreal Engine 5 has received multiple updates since its release, with the latest version, 5.3, recently leaving preview access. This update brings improvements to core rendering, developer iteration, and virtual production toolsets. It also introduces experimental features, including cinematic-quality volumetric rendering, orthographic rendering, a Skeletal Editor, panel-based Chaos Cloth, and support for SMPTE ST 2110.

While major AAA games fully leveraging Unreal Engine 5 are yet to be released, titles like Layers of Fear, Remnant II, and Immortals of Aveum have offered a glimpse into the engine's capabilities. However, the current gaming hardware may still need optimization, as demonstrated by a game from Ascendant Studios, which received support for AMD FSR 3 to enhance performance on all GPUs.
