Rockstar Games Focuses on Game Graphics Evolution for Upcoming GTA 6

Editors claim that the graphics difference between Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 6 will be significantly greater than that between GTA 5 and RDR 2. The development team has honed in on several crucial aspects:

  1. Game Physics: This includes real-time water physics simulation and more detailed vehicle deformation.

  2. Realistic Time Management: The game will feature more realistic day-night cycles.

  3. Rendering Quality: Expect higher-quality textures, improved lighting, and volumetric clouds.

  4. Artificial Intelligence: Enhanced NPC interactions and police responsiveness.

Rockstar for GTA 6 appears to have engineered a "revolutionary system for real-time physically modeled water." Such technologies were primarily reserved for cinema or 3D applications until now. The company established a dedicated "RAGE Technology Group" with 20 engineers to develop cutting-edge modeling.

After months of research, experimentation, and optimization, the California-based team achieved real-time, physically modeled water in an open-world video game.

Water is expected to play a pivotal role in the latest Grand Theft Auto, leading to the developers paying extensive attention to its representation and achieving an entirely new level of quality. A 3D animation from 2016 showcases the water quality in GTA 6.

Car physics is another element undergoing improvement, offering "more precise deformations and consequently, more realistic accidents." Vehicle customization will also influence driving: for instance, adding a spoiler can help with windy conditions. The game aims to strike a balance between realism and an arcade feel to maintain the driving experience similar to GTA 5.

GTA 6 will be the "first game in the series with physically modeled lighting." A similar technology was used in Red Dead Redemption 2 but has been refined for more realistic texture rendering based on lighting conditions, delivering captivating experiences in both day and night.

The game will introduce a "real weather system" with weather effects not only visible but also felt during gameplay. Wind gusts will disrupt vegetation and create waves on the beach. Rain and wind will impact high-speed vehicle control, while sunrises and sunsets will be more realistic than ever, and nights more atmospheric.
