Starfield's Initial Reviews: High Scores with Mixed Feelings
Bethesda's Starfield embarked on its journey with lofty ratings on major review aggregators. On OpenCritic, the game scored 87 points, while on Metacritic it garnered 88 for PC and 87 for Xbox Series X|S. This is roughly on par with Fallout 4.
Despite the high scores, the game elicits mixed feelings among critics. Emphasis is placed on the beautifully rendered, yet sometimes sparse, landscapes of distant planets, as well as on space flights that many view merely as an enhanced fast-travel system.
Nevertheless, the game has received a plethora of praise for its dynamic shooter mechanics, stability, and detailed graphics across all platforms.
