AMD Radeon driver 21.11.1 is optimized for Call of Duty Vanguard and Forza Horizon 5

084555311

AMD has released its new Radeon Adrenalin 21.11.1 drivers which support the just released Call of Duty: Vanguard and Forza Horizon 5.

The new Radeon Adrenalin 21.11.1 drivers provide 23% more performance in Forza Horizon 5 at extreme 4K settings on the Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card compared to the previous 21.10.2 software driver.

Issues fixed:

  • Users may experience distortion issues when the Samsung™ Odyssey G9 C49G95T monitor is set to 5120X1440 @ 240Hz.
  • While playing Call of Duty®: Warzone, some users may experience visual artifacts when moving the cursor in the in-game menu.

Known issues:

  • Some systems with Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics cards may experience video driver timeouts when playing Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. As a temporary measure, it is proposed to disable the Radeon Anti-Lag feature in the Radeon Software settings;
  • Some users may experience increased disk space consumption by the Multimedia Athena Dumps folder;
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War may experience visual artifacts on some AMD graphics products such as the Radeon RX 6800M;
  • AMD Radeon Software may crash or become unresponsive in some DirectX 11 mode games such as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds with multiple displays connected in advanced mode. A temporary solution would be to press Alt + R on your keyboard;
  • Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen when enabled on some games and system configurations. Users who may experience problems with advanced sync enabled should disable it;
  • Radeon performance metrics and logging features may intermittently report very high and incorrect memory clock rates.

Sony's new patent: real-time image scaling

Logo Sony Inte9876ractive Entertainment

Sony Interactive Entertainment has patented a "computer-based image processing implementation" for the PS5.

The patent describes ways in which machine learning can create "masks" of any image to show some sections and hide others, and then modify and apply the filling process based on the presence or absence of fragments. As a result, the computer will learn to determine with relative ease whether there should be a gap or not.

Sony's technology is not too similar to Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), which uses upscaling technology in its graphics cards to improve real-time image resolution. Sony plans to bring this technology to the PlayStation 5 and PS VR.

Interestingly, the LinkedIn profile of SIE Senior Engineer Andy Bigos, who is listed as one of the creators of the patent, notes that he recently led the effort to apply machine learning and neural rendering to real-time graphics on the PlayStation 5 without specifically mentioning PS VR.

Intel has disabled DirectX 12 on older processors

Intel has disabled DirectX 12 support for some of its processors. Because of the potential vulnerability.

Following the discovery of a potential security vulnerability affecting several 4th generation Intel processors, Intel has officially announced that it will be disabling DirectX 12 support starting with graphics driver version 15.40.44.5107. The only good news is that it doesn't really matter, since games that require DirectX 12 will most likely not be stable on integrated graphics.

DirectX 12 is not supported on 4th generation processors that debuted on the market in 2013. This applies to Core, Pentium, and Celeron devices with integrated graphics, such as the Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200 and 5100 and the Intel HD Graphics 5000, 4600, 4400, and 4200.
