Denuvo will conduct independent performance tests to debunk allegations of DRM issues

In an interview published a few days ago on Ars Technica, COO Videogames at Irdeto (the company that acquired Denuvo in 2018), Steeve Huin publicly defended Denuvo's DRM. He acknowledged that the company needs to reassure gamers that Denuvo does not affect game performance. According to him, Irdeto plans to give selected publications the opportunity to test almost identical versions of the game with and without Denuvo.

In addition, Huin said the company will focus on anti-cheat technologies that are transparent to the consumer. For example, this year Denuvo released a bot detection technology called Unbotify that also monitors auto-hover controllers.

While the interview did not touch upon the Nintendo Switch emulator security software introduced by Denuvo in August 2022 without the involvement of Nintendo, it is worth noting that Nintendo Switch games continue to be available on release day (or even earlier) via PC emulators, such as Yuzu and Ryujinx.

Huin also noted that Denuvo may slightly affect performance by less than one percent, but he spoke of anti-cheat software that is separate from DRM and is known to be significantly less popular among game developers who prefer to use BattlEye. , EasyAntiCheat or Valve Anti-Cheat.
