Bitcoin Mining Difficulty Increases: What Does It Mean for Users?

We've recently witnessed a 1.6% increase in Bitcoin mining difficulty, reaching a milestone of 73.2 T. But what does this mean for regular cryptocurrency users?

13.How does mining difficulty affect mining results 1 1

Firstly, the stable hash rate at 545 EH/s confirms the network's reliability. This is crucial for those holding bitcoins as it ensures the security of transactions. The Hashrate Index, which estimates the cost of hash rate, is currently at $84.6 per PH.

Changes in miner profitability are also noteworthy. Over the past year, their revenue from fees has increased by 400%, averaging $2 million per day. This could impact miners' decisions to remain active and uphold network security.

Akron Energy, a mining-focused company, secured $110 million in investments to expand its capacities. This could be a positive sign for investors, indicating a growing interest in the cryptocurrency industry.

AMD's Zen 6 CPUs Revealed: Codenamed "Medusa" with Enhanced 2.5D Interconnects

According to information shared by @Olrak29_, AMD has settled on the codename for its next-gen Zen 6 client desktop CPUs - "Medusa." The Zen 5 desktop CPU lineup will be known as Granite Ridge, while the Zen 6 lineup will adopt the Medusa codename. Expected to make an appearance in late 2025 or early 2026, it will be a while before AMD officially divulges details, as Zen 5 is still under wraps officially.

F7jtPCBbMAAR3c

Beyond the codename, it has been revealed that AMD's Zen 6 client CPUs, or Medusa, will feature a novel interconnect based on a 2.5D chiplet design. This design is touted to facilitate higher chip-to-chip bandwidth, enabling faster communication within and between CCDs and the IOD.

A die representation showcased a Navi 31 GPU with two MCD stacks representing dual CCDs and a small portion of the GCD representing the IOD. This suggests that the Zen 6 "Ryzen" CPUs might adopt a dual CCD chiplet design with a single IO die once again. Although the IOD may expand to incorporate next-gen technologies, it remains uncertain for now.

Additional details highlight that Medusa CPUs (Ryzen Zen 6 Desktop) will not stack CCDs on top of the IOD due to the associated higher costs. While AMD may experiment with such designs in the future, similar to the approach taken with 3D V-Cache stacking on Ryzen 5000 chips, further refined with the Ryzen 7000 SKUs. According to earlier information, the AMD Zen 6 core architecture is codenamed "Morpheus" and is slated for release by 2025-2026.

With Zen 5 set to launch in 2024, the company is likely to start sharing more information on its next-gen Zen 6 architecture and respective products once Zen 5 hits the market.

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER GPU Benchmarks Leak: Confirmed Specs and Performance Comparable to RTX 4070 Ti

Benchmarks for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER GPU have surfaced, revealing performance almost on par with the RTX 4070 Ti.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER GPU

Expected to be the entry-level offering in the RTX 40 "SUPER" lineup, the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER will compete against the Radeon RX 7800 XT, targeting the 1440P+ segment with its 16 GB VRAM. The upgraded RTX 4070 SUPER aims to achieve performance near the RTX 4070 Ti but at a more competitive price point.

In terms of specifications, the RTX 4070 SUPER is anticipated to come in AD104-350 or AD103-175 SKU configurations, both featuring 7,168 cores. The GPU is expected to have 48 MB of L2 cache and stick with 12 GB GDDR6X memory across a 192-bit bus interface. Performance-wise, it is projected to be approximately 14% faster than the RTX 4070 Non-SUPER. The card will also feature the new CEM 5.1 Gen5 power connector.

In Geekbench OpenCL tests, the RTX 4070 SUPER scored 195,384 points and 219,237 points in CUDA tests. These benchmarks showcase impressive performance, surpassing the RX 7900 XTX in OpenCL and trailing behind the RTX 4070 Ti by only -5.5%. In CUDA tests, the RTX 4070 SUPER offers 98% of the performance of the RTX 4070 Ti. It's essential to note that these are synthetic benchmarks, and actual gaming performance may vary.

Compared to the RTX 4070 Non-SUPER, the SUPER variant boasts a 15% performance uplift in OpenCL and an 18% improvement in CUDA benchmark tests.

The official unveiling of the GPU is expected next week at NVIDIA's CES 2024 "Special Address." Stay tuned for more updates.

PlayStation 5 Pro Leaks: AI Upscaling Support and 60 FPS Base Frame Rate in Ray Tracing Mode

The PlayStation 5 Pro is likely to support AI upscaling in some form, judging from a leaked Marvel's Wolverine slide that's been making the rounds online.

PlayStation 5 Pro ray tracing

The slide, which is part of the huge Insomniac Games leak from last month, details some of the tech the game will feature or that's being investigated. Alongside film-quality facial animation, better destruction, real-time damage and regeneration, real-time global illumination, dynamic weather and foliage, deformable surfaces, and improved locomotion, the game starring one of Marvel Comics' most beloved heroes is also going to feature AI upscaling powered by machine learning, and a 60 frames per second base framerate in performance ray tracing mode. As the PlayStation 5 doesn't feature any dedicated hardware to support AI upscaling, it is extremely likely it will only be supported on the PlayStation 5 Pro. It's also most definitely not referring to AMD FSR support, as the tech is not powered by machine learning, unlike NVIDIA DLSS.

This isn't the first time it has been suggested that the PlayStation 5 Pro will support AI upscaling, as a recent leak revealed how the console will have dedicated hardware for it. While the leak may not be entirely accurate, it is believable regarding the console's CPU, as the rumored Zen 2 CPU makes the most sense, given how other chips would bring the manufacturing costs high.

Matrixport Predicts Rejection of Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024

Financial firm Matrixport has expressed an opinion on the potential rejection of applications to launch the first Bitcoin ETFs in the US. This comes in light of changes made by the SEC to the requirements for candidates wishing to launch cryptocurrency-based ETFs. Matrixport claims that existing obstacles and uncertainties may only be resolved by the end of the second quarter of 2024.

In anticipation of this news, expectations of the launch of Bitcoin ETFs have sparked a wave of optimistic forecasts from analysts. However, according to Matrixport, the SEC leaves some legally justified difficulties in the way of launching these investment products. The company anticipates the rejection of all proposals in January, although the possible resolution of issues is expected in the second quarter of 2024.

It is expected that this decision by the SEC will lead to a correction in the price of Bitcoin, considering the influx into the cryptocurrency market of over $14 billion since September 2023, primarily due to ETF expectations.
